About Dr. Maytal
My own experiences with therapy have deeply shaped the way I work. Over the years, I came to appreciate that understanding ourselves is important, but insight alone doesn’t always change how we feel or respond when something difficult is happening. I became increasingly drawn to experiential therapy: slowing down, paying attention to what is happening in the present moment, and working not only with our thoughts, but with emotions and the body.
With over 15 years of clinical experience working with adults and teens, I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, and the emotional patterns that can leave us feeling stuck. I have advanced training in trauma, somatic, and experiential therapies, and continue to deepen my training in IFS, mindfulness, attachment, and neuroscience-informed approaches.
I don’t believe in fitting people into a particular model. Instead, I draw from different approaches based on what you need and what emerges in our work together. Sometimes that means exploring the origins of a reaction; other times, it means slowing down and noticing what is happening right now, in your thoughts, emotions, or body.
At the heart of my work is the belief that difficult emotions and reactions often make sense when we understand what they are trying to protect or communicate. Rather than fighting against them, therapy can help us approach our inner experience with greater curiosity and compassion, and begin to relate to ourselves in a different way.
